Shoulder Dislocation Treatment in Delhi – Expert Care by Dr. Gaurav Khera

Shoulder Dislocation

A shoulder dislocation is a painful condition that arises when the head of the upper arm bone is violently forced out of its socket in the shoulder blade. Athletes, accident victims, and those with hypermobile joints are especially prone to this injury. In Dr. Gaurav Khera’s Orthopaedic Clinic in Delhi NCR, we deliver swift, precise diagnoses and comprehensive management for each form of shoulder dislocation, promoting safe reductions, efficient recovery, and enduring prevention strategies.

Understanding Shoulder Dislocation

As opposed to shoulder instability, which is gradual, and might lead to partial mashing, a dislocation is acute (complete displacement of the joint). This is very painful and potentially makes the area visible, swollen, bruised, and unable to move the shoulder. The dislocation can be accompanied by injuries to nerve and blood vessels in many cases, which necessitate immediate hospitalization.

Three large ones exist:

  • Sudden, severe shoulder pain
  • The most frequent where the humeral head drifts forward.

  • Deformity or visible displacement of the joint
  • Occurs less frequently, through electric shock or seizure-related injuries.

  • Swelling and bruising around the shoulder
  • Uncommon frequently related to large amount of trauma or a number of ligament tears.

Causes and Risk Factors

Shoulder dislocations are usually caused by:

  • A fall on a projecting hand
  • Direct contact in contact sports (e.g. rugby, football)
  • Transportation accidents or trauma to work spots
  • Overhead straining / lifting injuries

  • Individuals who have loose ligaments, or those with a history of dislocations are susceptible to another instance.

Emergency Management and Diagnosis

Shoulder dislocation is treated as an orthopedic emergency in our clinic. Dr. Khera employs a blend of imaging such as X-rays and MRIs to analyze the direction of dislocation and its extent and check to see whether it is associated with a fracture or soft tissue injury.

The joint is carefully reduced usually in sedation or anesthesia and with care taken by limiting patient discomfort and providing correct positioning.

Post-Reduction Protocols and Rehabilitation

When the reduction is successful, the shoulder is immobilized in a sling or brace up to 24 weeks, depending on the severity. This is followed by individualized physiotherapy program aimed at:

  • Shoulder correction of range of motion
  • Empowerment of the rotator cuff and stabilizer muscles
  • Wards off rigidity and regrowth

When patients have multiple dislocations or combined injuries such as Bankart lesions, Hill-Sachs lesions, etc., stabilization surgery through arthroscopy can be suggested.
